A laser speckle flowmetry (LSF) image of changes in cerebral blood flow (CBF) in the rat brain in response to whisker stimuli.
The Medical Optics group is a interdisciplinary team that develops new state-of-the-art optical techniques to probe tissue function and morphology.
Our work encompasses a wide variety of topics from the furthering of the fundamental understanding of physiology such as the neuro-vascular coupling in response to stimuli to the development of clinically deployable bed-side monitors in neuro-critical care to portable monitors to follow the physiology of cancer treatment. We work extensively with local and international collaborators including neurologists, oncologists, neonatologists, neuro-surgeons, bio-engineers, electrical engineers, biologists and others.
